The National Weather Service&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/marine_forecasts.shtml\" title=\"NHC forecast home page\" target=\"_blank\">National Hurricane Center<\/a> doesn&#8217;t openly issue long range seasonal forecasts, but that doesn&#8217;t stop other organizations, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/\" title=\"Accuweather home page\" target=\"_blank\">Accuweather<\/a> (which predicts 10 named Atlantic storms) to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmersalmanac.com\/topics\/Farmers\">Farmers&#8217; Almanac (9) from doing so. <\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmersalmanac.com\/topics\/Farmers\"><a href=\"http:\/\/riskebusiness.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e5540bfd478834011570975107970b-pi\" class=\"image-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"linked-to-original\" src=\"https:\/\/riskebusiness.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00e5540bfd47883401156fa214d8970c-pi\" height=\"120\" align=\"left\" width=\"160\" style=\"display:inline;float:left;margin:0 10px 10px 0;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">\n<ul style=\"clear:both;\">\n<li>In the event of a hurricane watch\/warning or tropical storm watch\/warning, new coverage cannot be bound, nor coverage added or increased for existing policies providing property, inland marine or auto physical damage coverage. <\/li>\n<li>Policies quoted and bound prior to the issuance of a watch or warning will be honored if coverage was scheduled to take effect during the watch\/warning period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wind damage and flooding are the most common types of damage caused by tropical storms. Wind is covered by most standard policies, but flood is not. Flood insurance is a government program, sold by virtually any insurance agency, <\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.noyeshallallen.com\" title=\"Our home page\" target=\"_blank\">including us<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">. The flood insurance program has a 30 day waiting period from the receipt of an application until coverage begins. <\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">Although hurricanes hit New England much less often than southern coastal areas, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/paststate.html\" title=\"Mainland Hurricane Strikes by State\" target=\"_blank\">we are not immune<\/a>. Maine has been struck by 5 named storm, including 1991&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/tropical\/rain\/bob1991.html\" title=\"Bob has his own fan page!\" target=\"_blank\">Bob<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">Bottom line: the time to evaluate your insurance coverage is <em>before <\/em>a storm hits.
